Dakota Meyer to be honorary captain at Sat. LWC football game By Duane Bonifer COLUMBIA, KY - A special Lindsey Wilson College guest will toss the coin at Saturday's Blue Raider football game. Southcentral Kentucky native Dakota Meyer will be given the honor at the LWC-Cumberland (TN) University football game, which kicks off the Blue Raiders' 2011 season. Meyer will also be an honorary LWC captain during the game, which begins at 7pm CT at Blue Raider Stadium, 820 Hanley Lane, Columbia, KY The first living Marine in 41 years to receive the prestigious Medal of Honor, Meyer will be honored next month at a White House ceremony. Meyer will receive the medal for his September 8, 2009, actions, in which he braved a firefight in Ganjgal, Afghanistan, to search for three missing Marines and a Navy corpsman. Meyer left active duty in June 2010 as a corporal. "Dakota Meyer epitomizes what it means to serve others," said LWC Athletic Director Willis Pooler. "Dakota has said that he feels 'the furthest thing from a hero,' but his selfless acts and dedication to a greater cause do indeed make him a role model in the eyes of many people. We are honored that he will be our guest at this year's opening Blue Raider football game."The writer of this article, Duane Bonifer is Public Relations Director at Lindsey Wilson College.
