King and Anderson lead LWC to volleyball win at IU Southeast Click on headline for full story plus photo(s) By Dan White NEW ALBANY, IN - Freshman jitters weren't on display at Indiana University Southeast on Tuesday as Lindsey Wilson College volleyball newcomers Kirsten King and Sarah Anderson tallied 13 and 12 kills, respectively to lead the Blue Raiders over the Grenadiers 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22). Senior Kayla Koerber was efficient as well, knocking down nine kills with no errors in 13 attempts for a .692 hitting percentage, while her classmate Rachael Anderson paced the defense with a team-high 11 digs and junior setter Andrea Taylor dished out a match-high 42 assists and a pair of service aces. IU Southeast was led offensively by Sara Schum with 13 kills for a .292 hitting percentage, while Katie Johnson handed out 32 assists and Lauren McCartin found 20 digs. As a team, Lindsey Wilson struck for a .312 hitting percentage while limiting IU Southeast to a .170 mark with the help of six blocks in the match. Despite the close ending scores of the first two sets, the Blue Raiders never trailed and took advantage of Anderson's size on the right side and the athleticism of King to bring rallies to an end with thundering kills. The 23-25 loss in the third set had a lot to do with the Blue Raiders' own errors as they racked up 12 service errors in the game. While errors were a major issue, there were some bright spots on serve with junior Angela Mlachnik and Taylor both netting two service aces. Other highlights for Lindsey Wilson were freshman Sierra Wilkerson with seven kills and her classmate Taylor Hayne with five kills for a .250 hitting percentage. Sophomore Alex Kibsey was another defensive standout for the Blue Raiders, grabbing nine digs and delivering a service ace. The season-opening win is the first for Lindsey Wilson since the start of the 2008 season when it topped St. Catharine College 3-0 on Aug. 27. - Dan White The writer of this story, Dan White, is the Assistant Sports Information Director at Lindsey Wilson CollegeNextBlue Raider Volleyball vs. Bethel (TN) University at Biggers The Blue Raiders return to action at 6pmCT on Monday, August 29, 2011, at Biggers Sports Arena, 360 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY, against Bethel (TN) University at Biggers Sports Center.
