Saloma Baptist Church celebrating homecoming, 60th anniversary

Taylor County congregation is a cooperating member of the Taylor County Baptist Association as well as a member of Zion Association of Baptists. The church promotes racial harmony and is active in Hispanic Baptist missions work. John Chowning, Amandaville, Cumberland Co., KY native and graduate of Lindsey Wilson College, is in his 18th year as pastor of the historic church. - CM

Saloma Baptist Church, located at 1505 West Saloma Road five miles north of Campbellsville, will be celebrating Homecoming and 60th anniversary on Sunday, August 28, 2011. The day's activities include: Sunday School-10amET/9amCT. Worship-11amET/10amCT; 12pmET/11amCT potluck meal and fellowship hour; and an afternoon service at 1:30pmET/12:30pmCT "From the Heart" will be in concert during the afternoon service, and there will be historical presentations throughout the day. Historical photographs will be displayed along with presentation of a video containing highlights of the past 60 years.




Saloma Baptist Church has a rich history of cooperation with and support of Campbellsville University and has utilized CU student ministers at various points throughout the church's 60 years of ministry. CU vice president John Chowning is in his 18th year as pastor. Jason England, a CU alumnus and CU assistant alumni relations director, is the associate pastor and student minister. Jonathan McCoy, a current CU student, is the minister of music and worhship. A number of SBC members are involved with CU as well in other capacities including students, employees, and supporters.

Saloma Baptist Church is a cooperating member of the Taylor County Baptist Association, Kentucky Baptist Convention, and Southern Baptist Convention. In recent years, the congregation has been involved in efforts to promote racial reconciliation and harmony and became members of the Zion District Association of Baptists and General Association of Baptists in Kentucky, historical African American Baptist organizations. Saloma is also active in support of Hispanic Baptist missions work, has raised funds for seven water wells in Zambia, belongs to the Baptist World Alliance (a world wide Baptist organization), and provides between 45-50% of its annual general fund budget in support of missions locally, statewide, and globally.
