AC school enrollment 2,494 K-12 vs. 2,506 end of last year

Little change seen in total student population over last year

By Alan W. Reed
News from the Adair County School District

'The first week of classes are now over for students in Adair County Schools. Early data indicate total student enrollment numbers have changed little compared with last year.

Total student enrollment as of Friday, August 12, 2011, is 2,494 (K-12), compared with 2,506 K-12 students at the end of school last year.

According to Brenda Mann, Director of Student Personnel Services, it is typical to see year-to-year fluctuations in grade-level enrollment in small districts such as Adair County.

The Kindergarten numbers stand at 209 as of today (8/12/11), compared with 223 students this time last year. The number of seniors (Grade 12) for the new school year stands at 165 compared with 186 at the start of school last year. The smaller Kindergarten class could result in smaller grade level numbers in subsequent years.

Pre-school students, who are not counted in district enrollment will start school on Monday, August 22, 2011.

Parents are reminded that school is now well underway and all school age students should be enrolled in classes.
