Poetry by Robert Stone. Sonnet: The almost loved

The almost loved
-a sonnet of lost chances
A better time might come but likely not
for what we need to hear we need hear now.
So burn the words of future goodness plot
for kindness done outweighs eternal vow.

A better place may wait but empty stay
for we will other be when we arrive.
So seize today the chance to joy to sway
for expectations strong let us survive.

A better life can be but with the darks
for visions pale most often fade to faint.
So do not hope in blinding welder's sparks
for only binding patterns less constraint.

We fool ourselves that we have gently shoved
to better help the ones we almost loved.

- Robert Stone, 24 July 2011
