Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: The Historic Courthouse

Metcalfe County's Historic Courthouse is situated on one of Kentucky's largest, shadiest lawns. It is one of four Metcalfe County landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places.The others, listed at Register of Historic Places/Metcalfe Co., KY are the Metcalfe County Jail, the Stockton-Ray House, and the entire Sulphur Well Historic District. There are a total of 78 National Register of Historic Places in the 7-County Columbia, KY area, 46 of which are in Green County. If you go (Google MAP) There are choices among several of the most scenic drives from Downtown Columbia, KY. The closest in time, at 25.5 miles/27 minutes, is via the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. The most traditional route is via the Edmonton RD/KY 80, through Bliss, Gradyville, Weed, Nell, Red Lick, and Gascon, it's also the shortest, at 22.7 miles but takes 29 minutes. For Adair Countians from all but the southwestern part of the county, the least well known route, but a spectacularly scenic one, is through Breeding, KY. It's 26 miles and 39 minutes.

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Old Jail, on National Register

The Old Jail, at the elbow on the North End of East Street, in Edmonton, KY, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ancient lockup is juxtaposed against the red brick of Metcalfe County's handsome new Judicial Center, right in the photo. The Old Jail is one of four National Register of Historic Places in Metcalfe County and one of 78 in the Seven County area around Columbia, KY. The other three Metcalfe Co. National Register landmarks are the Historic Courthouse, the Stockton Ray House, and the entire Historic District of Sulphur Well, KY.
