Free Certified Event Planning course at The Center

The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) to present free DHS-certified course on event planning at The Center for Rural Development, 2292 S. Hwy 27, Somerset, KY

By Sharon Dodson
News from the Center for Rural Development, 2292 S. Hwy 27, Somerset, KY

During events, when the crowds are surging and all activities are in full swing, the plans that have been developed and implemented are tested and security is measured purely on a success/failure grade.

To help rural public safety personnel and event planners in Southern and Eastern Kentucky meet this challenge head on, the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) is presenting a free course August 8 and 9, 2011, at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset entitled "MGT 335: Event Planning for Public Safety Professionals."

This 16-hour, Department of Homeland Security certified course is a free-tuition, management-level course designed to introduce basic principles and skill associated with organizing security for events in small communities and rural areas. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to recognize and plan adequate strategies and security measures to prevent or mitigate security incidents related to planned events. The only prerequisite is that you be a U.S. citizen.

The event will be held August 8 and 9 at The Center for Rural Development, Ballrooms A and B, 2292 South Highway 27, Somerset, Kentucky, 42501, at Traffic Light 15 from 8am-5pmET/7am-4pmCT each day. The registration deadline is July 25, 2011. To register for the course, please click:Registration LInk
