KRS 441.105 requires the Jailer to make a quarterly report to the fiscal court to include number of personnel, personnel needs and condition of jail. Employment In the jail quarterly report, as of today 33 people are employed. We have 15 full-time deputy positions approved and two vacant positions. We schedule part-time in those slots to save fringe benefits. Four employees are classified as dispatchers that work the control room and two cooks. 20 part-time positions are approved and 14 are filled. We are trying to finishing up training requirements and 84% of the employee performance evaluations have been completed. Condition of jail is currently stable The condition of the jail is currently stable, we have painted the exterior doors, applied roof coating to preserve the roof, a plumbing fixture in the booking was re-connected that had been disconnected for an undetermined time and was required by the state inspector to be repaired. BIggest problem is keeping plumbing leaks controlled The biggest problem at this time is keeping plumbing leaks controlled. Currently the air conditioner is stable. It appears that some of the dampers do not work correctly which causes some of the areas to be warmer or cooler. We have a schedule of cleaning the returns and making sure filters are replaced to reduce the load on the compressors. We have also replaced the lobby windows and have ordered a visitation window that an inmate damaged and will be charged for. Exterior improvements The landscaping at the jail was completed by inmates and funded with donations from the Adair County Garden Club, Barbara Armitage & Magistrate Billy Coffey. We have also attached benches to the front of the jail that inmates constructed.Food, phone, total costs reduced I contacted our food vendors and informed them that we will not pay the fuel surcharge for delivering food which is a savings of $5.00/invoice. We have reduced the cost of food from $1.16/meal to $.96/meal. We were able to finish the food budget line item $7,562.08 under budget. I also reduced cost of the jail telephone by approximately 24% which is a savings of 128.62/month. Since January we have reduced the cost per day per inmate from $40.38/day to $35.03/day. -Rick Wilson This story was posted on 2011-07-13 03:44:07
