Edith Phillips, Adair Co., KY (1934-2011)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair Co., KY family. She was retired from Fruit of the Loom and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Edith Phillips, 76, of Columbia, KY, died Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 3:38pm at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

Funeral service will be Tuesday July 12, 2011 at 11amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Steve Pescosolido and Bro. Troy Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty RD, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4:30pmCT, Monday, July 11, 2011.



Edith Phillips, Adair Co., KY (1934-2011)

She was born November 19, 1934, in Adair Co., KY. She was the daughter of the late Dewey and Zada Moss Shirley. She died Saturday, July 9, 2011, in Somerset, Pulaski Co., KY, at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 20 days.

She was married to Hollis Gilpin who preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Merlin Phillips who preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Glen, Ernest and Wayne Shirley, Beatrice Brock.

She was retired from Fruit of the Loom and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include the following:
  • One daughter and son-in-law: Bridget and Freddy Rowe of Columbia, KY

  • Three step-daughters: Ermine Jenkins of Louisville, Mary Wilkerson of PeeWee Valley, KY; and Linda Clore of LaGrange, KY

  • One brother: Charles Shirley of Cane Valley, KY

  • One sister: Voyce Burris of Gradyville, KY

  • One grandson: William Rowe

  • Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, U.C.S.S. Fund.

Grissom-Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
