CU alum Chris Curley to play in Frontier League All-Star Game Former Tiger helped guide CU to first-ever NAIA World Series appearance in 2009 By Matt Payton News from Campbellsville Sports Information FLORENCE, KY - Former Campbellsville University standout Chris Curley has been selected to play in the Frontier League All-Star Game July 13, 2011, at All Pro Freight Stadium, 2009 Baseball Boulevard, Avon, OH. (MAP: Bing Directions). Curley, who played at CU from 2007-2009, signed with the Florence Freedom in Northern Kentucky this spring after being released by the Atlanta Braves organization. He was selected as a reserve infielder for the West All-Star Team after collecting a league-leading 36 runs scored and .331 batting average so far this season. He ranks in the Top 5 in the league for home runs (9) and is second for total RBIs (38). During Curley's time as a Campbellsville Tiger, the third baseman from Beechwood High School helped guide CU to its first-ever NAIA World Series appearance in 2009. He was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year that season and hit .403 with 19 home runs. Through his three years, he became the Tigers' career record holder for home runs (37), career hits (219) and career RBIs (163). Following his junior season in 2009, Curley signed a non-drafted free agent deal with the Atlanta Braves and made his pro debut in the fall of 2009 with the Danville (Va.) Braves. After extended spring training in 2010, he was assigned to the Braves' Low A club, the Rome Braves, in mid-May. Curley played 61 games with Rome, hitting 2.14 with five doubles, four triples and three home runs. In September, he was called up to the Braves' Single A team in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and hit .357 through four games. Curley was released from the Braves during Spring Training in 2011 due to roster space. Frontier League All-Star festivities will begin Tuesday, July 12 with a Fan Fest at 5:30pmET and Home Run Derby at 7:30pmET. The All-Star Game will be played at 7pmET Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
