He was a native of Adair Co., KY, and a member of a large, respected West Adair Co., KY family.

Herschel T. Compton, 83, formerly of Adair Co. died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Willow Crossing Nursing Home in Columbus, IN.

Graveside service will be Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2pm,CT, at Moore Cemetery, 225 Prices Creek RD, Columbia, KY with burial to follow. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include the following::
  • Eleven children

  • Two brothers: Harold Compton of Elizabethtown and James Allen Compton of Columbus, IN

  • Five sisters : Nordina Wilkins of Elizabethtown,, KY; Leo Bartley of Seattle, Washington, Viola Osborne of Campbellsville, KY;, Edna Ozella Mayes of Columbus, IN, Sophia Henderson of Indiana

  • Several grandchildren
