A call for recycling units near dispensers Vonnie Kolbenschlag writes: I'm a believer in saving resources and appreciate the grants. I know that large containers have been put in the Walmart parking lot, but I do not see any places to recycle plastic bottles and cans inside the entrance where the dispensers are located. This would be an encouragement and reminder, I think, to recycle. I've peeked into trash cans there and see aluminum cans thrown away. I have read that the U.S. actually imports and pays for empty aluminum cans from other countries such as China because people in this country toss cans in the trash - or along roads. UGH! Other countries have learned how to earn money from wasteful Americans, I guess. Companies here that make cans know that remelting used cans to make new ones takes less energy and water than mining and making cans from original resources, so they import used cans. One of Lindsey's International students told me that in his country people are FINED for throwing away aluminum cans. Extreme, but probably gets the point across of the importance of saving resources. - Vonnie KolbenschlagComments re article 45004 Adair surrounding counties get recycling grants This story was posted on 2011-06-16 12:45:24
