She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair Co., KY, family, with many relatives in this area. She was the daughter of the late Rollin and Lula McGaha Sapp of the Garlin community and was the widow of the late Col. Charles Davis Phillips

Margaret Sapp Phillips, 77, a native of Adair County, died peacefully May 20, 2011, after a brief recurrence of breast cancer.

She will be remembered at a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, VA and interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.



Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Charles Davis Phillips (Ret.), her parents, Rollin and Lula McGaha Sapp, her sister, Avanell Sapp Burchett and two brothers, Donald and Charles Edward Sapp

She is survived by the following:
  • Two sons: James S. Phillips (Francie) of McLean, VA, and Richard D. Phillps (Sharon) of Greenville, SC

  • Five grandchildren

  • Two sisters, Louise Huddleston of Bowling Green, KY and Patricia Kaeding (George) of Ghent, KY

  • Two brothers, James Sapp (Patsy) of Carrollton, KY, and Douglas Sapp (Jane) of Columbia, KY

  • A sister in law: Betty Helen Henson Sapp, Columbia, KY

  • And numerous nieces and nephews
