Joppa: It means Beautiful Maury Lewis writes: Ed you are always saying the area I live in is called Joppa and I was reading in Acts yesterday and it mentioned Joppa. I looked up the word and it means "beautiful." So I guess I live in the beautiful part of Adair County. -Maury LewisThanks for finding and sharing the definition with us. Indeed, Joppa is a beautiful part of Adair Co., KY, and the birthplace and home of so many famous people it would be hard to list them all. But you have to be proud of the famed horsemen, the Combest brothers; and of journalist Fred Troutman and his brothers; writer M.E. Lewis; and Cosby Cundiff, the friend and co-conspirator of Byron Crawford; all the Youngs, including author Garnett Young, and the Green Bros., writer Sonja Foley McKinney, the wonderful Markles, not to mention Harlan Brown, who was so successful in his line of work.
