Great Wooded South Lexicon VI: Borrying from Cumberland Co., KY

Previous Lexicon: Great Wooded South Lexicon V: Unthaw, fanger, and more
Next Lexicon: Great Wooded South Lexicon VII: Pull the ears back, plus more

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

Many of this week's Great Wooded South Lexicon words were gleaned during a brainstorming session on the Cumberland County side of Greenbriar Ridge with Delpha Dulworth, her two daughters Joan Carol, our local massage therapist, and Sherrie, who has just recently been accepted into the Columbia University School of Journalism in New York, New York.

Judging from Sherrie's genius with our local vernacular, I am sure she is well prepared to turn the journalistic world upside down at Columbia and beyond.
  • Tamarr: day after today

  • Up ar: a location and or destination someplace other than the present location

  • Tard: exhausted

  • Arn: the metal carrying the symbol "Fe" and the appliance used to remove wrinkles from clothing or the act of removing wrinkles from clothing.

  • Flair: an ornamental plant with blooms or a bloom
More local, language, lexicon enlightener's forthcoming as the need comes to our attention and I am thankful for all the help from CM readers and contributors. I am inspired and enlightened daily by CM and all those who make it such a special gathering place. -Billy Joe Fudge
