Maurice Hoover Hotel Miller photo brings back Otha Flatt ran the Hotel Coffee Shop. His daughter remembers the cast of characters who visited there, and at the hotel, and many of the businesses of the day. Comments re photo 39971 Favorite old photo Hotel Miller 1971 By Von Price Louisville, KY I remember the Miller Hotel well. My parents (Otha Flatt) had the Coffee Shop in the Hotel. I was 10 years old! And that was a long time ago. I remember Grimsley Jewelry Store and Miss Susan Miller who ran the Selective Service (draft) office and the Rowe family who owned it. The Columbia Post Office was behind it and I remember Mr. E.P. Waggener coming in every morning before he would go on his mail route and Frozia Hoover, who was Jeff Hoover's grandmother, was also a mail carrier and who was our mail carrier at home. Some people might remember Haskin & Ceola Rowe. They were brother and sister...but their father, Owen Rowe, was the one who owned it. And on Sunday my brothers would go to the Columbian Theater for the show. The cost was fifty cents! And popcorn was twenty-five cents! I remember Miss Jackie who came on Saturdays to teach tap-dancing lessons. Some who still live in Columbia can remember those days as well. Oh, those were the Good Old Days....as they say.And just to mention a few of the Old Stores: There were Young's Rexall Drug store, Marshall's Shoe store, Ben Franklin, Lerman's, Mr. Delmer Upchurch's Russell & Co., the drygoods store, G & M Grill (I never knew what the G & M meant), Rialto Theater, Coomer's Restaurant, Wooten's Women Shop, Jeffries Hardware, Lowe's Drug Store, The Style Shop, Fudge Barber Shop, Collin's Corner Drug, and many more. s/Von Price, Louisville, KY This story was posted on 2011-05-09 09:36:51
