John Adair Art Show is May 23-26, 2011

The John Adair Intermediate School faculty and staff invite the public to view student work at its annual Art Show, May 23-26, 2011, at the school located on the Greensburg Street side of the Adair County School District Campus at 202 Gen. John Adair DR, Columbia, KY.

Visitors to the display may check in at the office during the May 23-25, 2011 exhibition from 9am-3pmCT.

Over three-hundred pieces of student artwork will be displayed. According to Jane Branham, principal, students and the public should prepare to be visually stimulated. John Adair Intermediate School serves grades 3 through 5. Students have had options to work in various media including glazed porcelain. - Alan Reed

Ms. Katie Campbell, art teacher at John Adair Intermediate School, says her students have demonstrated considerable creativity. She is shown alongside one of the Batik panels displayed in the west hallway at John Adair Intermediate School. The artwork will be on display at the school May 23-26, 2011.

JAIS Art Exhibit: Full Mosaic

Batik (pronounced buh-TEEK). A technique of dyeing fabrics that involves covering parts of it with wax, dyeing the exposed part and then removing the wax with boiling water. Students in Ms. Katie Campbell's art classes at John Adair Intermediate School have been using a safer method of the ancient procedure of Batik. Toothpaste and hand lotion were substituted for wax and boiling water. The results were spectacular as depicted in the mosaic. -Alan Reed
