LWC's Santos MSC Player of the Year, Morales Top Freshman

CHATTANOOGA, TN- Lindsey Wilson College senior Andre Santos was selected the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year tonight at the MSC Banquet.

Santos ended the regular season with a 14-1 singles record, including a 3-0 record against conference foes while helping the Blue Raiders to a share of the MSC regular season title. He enters postseason play on a 12-match winning streak.



In doubles this season, Santos paired with partner Andrews Moraes to record a 14-2 doubles record. The tandem has won 10 straight doubles matches.

Lindsey Wilson freshman Fabricio Morales was named the MSC Freshman of the Year after he posted a 12-2 record this season. Morales has won nine straight matches as the Blue Raiders top singles player.

He and doubles partner Victor Saez are 13-1 this season playing at the No. 2 doubles position.

Santos, Morales, Moraes and Saez make up exactly half of both the all-conference singles and doubles teams.

The quartet is joined on the eight-man all-conference singles team by Campbellsville (KY) University's Carlos Anton, Pablo Numbela and Zac Malyon and Georgetown (KY) College's Benjamin Aspillaga.

The four all-conference doubles teams consist of the two Lindsey Wilson teams - Santos and Moraes and Morales and Saez -- and Campbellsville's Anton and Numbela and Malyon and Terry Caven.

The all-conference team is voted on by the conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Lindsey Wilson sophomores Clinton Berry and Joe Cox were among 12 student-athletes to earn academic all-conference honors. The pair maintained at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and being a sophomore or higher standing.

The conference honors were announced tonight in conjunction with the NAIA Qualifying Tournament which begins on Friday at the Champions Club,.

The NAIA Qualifying Tournament, which consists of five teams from the MSC and five teams from the Appalachian Athletic Conference, begins on Friday with opening round matches. The finals are slated for Saturday. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to next month's NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Ala.NAIA Qualifying Tournament: LWC Blue Raiders Men's Tennis Team vs. winner No. 7-seed University of the Cumberlands (KY) and No. 10-seed Bluefield (VA) College at 11amCT on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Champions Club, 3520 Lupton Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37415. The tournament's finals are scheduled for 11amCT on Saturday, April 30, 2011
