What Can We Do Now? Summer extravaganza involves entire community By Alan Reed As school draws to a close, it's time for parents and students to go shopping---for wholesome summer activities, that is. Once again this year, Col. Wm. Casey Elementary, Adair County Elementary, and John Adair Intermediate schools will be teaming up to present the "What Can We Do Now" extravaganza on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Colonel William Casey Elementary. The event will be held from 5pm-6pmCT, and is for students enrolled in pre-school through sixth-grade. The "What Can We Do Now?" program was conceived by Dana Harvey, a teacher at Colonel William Casey Elementary, who felt that students needed to continue to learn even though school was officially "out." Harvey began working with the other schools, little league programs, church groups, Scouting, 21st Century and others in an effort to bring them all together for one night. The purpose was to allow parents and students to visit the various tables set up by various clubs and organizations and make plans for summer. "The event was such a huge success, we're doing it again," says Harvey. "We want as many opportunities for our kids as possible. We want to keep them active and involved." "Parents and teachers realize the importance of keeping young minds active and engaged over the summer months," says Superintendent Darrell Treece . "We're looking forward to even more involvement from our community organizations this year." Coaches, cheerleading groups, scouts, 4-H and any community organization that sponsors summer programs for youth are invited to present their activities and should bring along fliers, brochures, tee-shirts, or other "freebies". Churches are also invited to present their Vacation Bible School programs. For more information contact or to reserve your spot contact any of the following:
