PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team split with host Shawnee State University today and will play in a win-or-go-home game on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Branch Rickey Park in the Mid-South Conference Tournament's Opening Round.

The Blue Raiders won today's opener 5-3 in extra innings to take a 1-0 series lead. But Shawnee State responded with a 5-2 win in an elimination game to even the series at 1-1 and force tomorrow's decisive game.

In the opener, Lance Harrington just missed hitting for the cycle and Derek Cape pitched a gem as the Blue Raiders won 5-3.

Harrington went 3-for-5 with all five RBIs to lead the Lindsey Wilson offense. Harrington put the Blue Raiders on top with a two-run home run in the fourth inning to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead.

The Bears (31-24) chipped away at the lead with runs in seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 2-2. Shawnee State had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Cape pitched out of the bases loaded, one-out jam to keep the game tied.

In the top of the 10th, Harrington was at it again with a bases-clearing triple to give the Blue Raiders the 5-2 lead. Harrington had doubled in the second inning and just missed the cycle after failing to single in the game.

Shawnee State's Cody Morrison led off the bottom of the 10th with a double and scored on Kendal Coleman's single to cut the Blue Raider lead to 5-3. The Coleman single was Cape's final batter as junior Jeremy Greene recorded the final three outs of the game for his team-leading fifth save of the season to secure the win.

Cape (7-4) picked up the win while allowing three runs on six hits over his 9-plus innings of work. He struck out 10 Bear hitters. Greene pitched a scoreless 10th without allowing a hit and striking out one Shawnee State hitter.

In game two, Shawnee State's Zac Alexander provided three RBIs and a trio of Bear pitchers scattered nine Lindsey Wilson hits in a 5-2 win.

The Blue Raiders lone runs of the game came in the first inning as senior Heath Barnes led off the game with a single and junior Jeff Murphy followed with his first home run of the season. The two-run shot cut the Bears' lead to 3-2 after one inning.

Following a five-run first inning, scoring became scarce as the Bears were the only team to dent the scoreboard after the initial inning. Shawnee State scored a run in the third and another in the seventh inning to take the 5-2 win and eventually the win.

Lindsey Wilson junior Ryan Rogers (3-4) suffered the loss despite going the distance. Rogers allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out 10.

Shawnee State's Cory Pallutch (7-2) picked up the win while allowing both Lindsey Wilson runs on six hits in 5-2/3 innings of work.

The final game of the series is set for 10amET/9CT on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Branch Rickey Park, Foot of Boundary ST, Portsmouth, OH.
