Orten otta, usedta could, and finger wave gesture

Betsy Fausnaugh writes:
Two of the phrases and a gesture that my husband and I love from our new homeland are:
  • Orten otta: as in You orten otta do that or you might get in trouble

  • Usedta could: as in I usedta could get in these britches before I put on a little weight

  • Extended index finger wave: While we are on the subject, nowhere else have I lived that I always get the finger wave if I am driving the pickup truck. No matter where in the area we go, we always get the extended index finger on the steering wheel as a gesture of acknowledgement or just a friendly Heh!
