Adair County A-Team places 3rd in nation in History Bee Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story (Report from Washington, DC, Sunday morning, April 17, 2011) - The Adair County High School A-team, with Luke Maupin, Ryan Montgomery, Jake Leibeck and Eddie Franklin competing, placed 3rd in the nation in the first ever National History Bee & Bowl, and in so doing went into the record books. This morning at 6:35amCT/7:35amET, when the news was received, the team was five blocks from the George Washington University site of today's individual competition, where Luke Maupin will be competing in a marathon with individuals from around the country to be one of 16 finalists who will be vying for the national championship at Mt. Vernon, VA. Because this is a first time event, the Adair County team goes into the record books as the first ever team from Kentucky to place in the nation's Top Three teams.
