The students met with Congressman Ed Whitfield on Thursday and attended a session of Congress featuring the highly contested budget debate. The team won their first match on Friday night in convincing fashion against Hoosick Falls High School from New York. In attendance for the match in the second row was Jeopardy all-time leading money winner Brad Rutter (winner in every major "all-star" Jeopardy tournament since 2005 and most recently a contestant against IBM computer "Watson") and the former champ was impressed with the Adair County team as he observed at their dominant first match. The team plays Saturday morning against Nichols High School from New York, Eastern View (Virginia), Ransom Everglades (Florida), St. Albans (West Virginia), and Jefferson County (Alabama). The team will compete as guests at the Slovenian Embassy, the Woodrow Wilson House, and the Malawi Embassy. There are 7 total former Jeopardy champions in attendance this weekend, including a recent competitor to be featured at this year's Tournament of Champions who eclipsed Ken Jennings single game earnings record.
