Jamestown: 28 miles thisaway - and 28 miles thataway

"Jim" writes
Ed,the mention of Jamestown, Tenn., brought to mind some of the tales my father used to tell about his days (circa 1940) pf driving a cattle truck for Marvin "Red" Irvin, a Russell Springs penhooker, my favorite being the one about the law abiding bovine. It also brought to mind two traffic signs which for a number of years graced the same post on the Taft Highway (KY 35 to the younger folks; US 127 to the really young folks) near Albany, Ky. One can only imagine the panic of directionally challenged drivers upon seeing a sign (with arrow pointing north) "Jamestown 28 miles" and immediately below it, another sign (with arrow pointing south) "Jamestown 28 miles." -"Jim"
