BURKESVILLE, KY - You can make the drive to the lake more attractive by volunteering to pick up roadside litter during the Dale Hollow Lake Cleanup, which will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 10amCT until Noon CT.

Volunteers will pick up litter along the roads around the lake. Safe, age-appropriate cleanup areas will be available for groups with children, such as schools and churches.

All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and free lunch, and they will be entered into a drawing for door prizes.

"The Dale Hollow Lake area is a highly traveled area and one of our most beautiful parts of the state," said Cumberland County Judge-Executive John A. Phelps, Jr. "It is very important to preserve the natural beauty around our lakes for everyone to enjoy."

"Now is the perfect time to make the lake roads look their best," said Tammie Wilson of PRIDE, one of the event sponsors. "Let's get the trash out of the ditches so the drive to the lake is beautiful for us and for our tourists."

"Remember to 'get five for PRIDE' and bring at least five people to volunteer with you," Wilson added. "Volunteering with your friends, family or co-workers will be fun, and you have the added incentives of a T-shirt, cook-out and door prizes."

"Keeping our community clean is everyone's responsibility," Phelps said. "There is strength on numbers, if we all can gather together we can accomplish a lot in just a little bit of time."

"I would like to see people of all ages to participate in this effort," he continued. "If our older people step up and participate, teaching our young people the importance of taking care of our land, it will always be enjoyable for our future generations. A clean environment is something that can be passed down over and over again. Sharing a clean environment from one generation to another is the true success to an event like this."

Volunteer registration will begin at 9amCT. at these locations: Hendricks Creek Dock, 945 Hendricks Creek RD, Burkesville, KY; Sulfur Creek Dock, 3498 Sulphur Creek RD, Burkesville, KY; Wisdom Dock, 2221 Wisdom Dock RD, Albany, KY, Wolfe Creek Dock and Dale Hollow State Resort Park, 5970 State Park RD, Burkesville, KY.

At registration, volunteers will be directed to an area to clean. They will receive trash bags, gloves and safety vests.

At Noon, volunteers will gather for a free cook-out at the picnic area shelter at Dale Hollow State Resort Park, 5970 State Park RD, Burkesville, KY. The door prize drawing will be held during the cook-out.
