Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Heather Jackson, a member of the ACHS Academic Team, was announced today as an additional qualifier as an at-large bid to the International Future Problem Solving Championships.

As reported earlier, Jackson was 2nd Place in the state in FPS Scenario Writing at the Governor's Cup State Championships at the Hyatt in Lexington, KY, on March 14, 2011.

The State Champion automatically qualifies for International competition, but the committee at Internationals considers runners-up from worldwide affiliates to fill a select few at-large bids for the event. After deliberation on the accepted additions to the competiton, Jackson was included in the select group of students worldwide who will now advance.

This is Heather's second consecutive qualification for the Internationals.Last year, she was runner-up statewide and was accepted as an at-large bid in the Middle Grades Division. She went on to place 5th internationally in the FPS Scenario Writing competition.

This makes the 7th high school qualifier for Internationals this year, along with the 5 ACMS competitors for an astounding 12 competitors total from the Adair County school district. Most Future Problem Solving competitors involved in the worldwide qualification process spend their whole school competition careers trying to achieve qualification just once out of all the years they are eligible. This is Adair's 5th consecutive year of qualification for the event, and they have nabbed Top 5 finishes in each of their previous four attempts.
