LWC to hold second annual Health & Wellness week Health Fair at Health & Wellness Center is March 29, 2011 By Duane Bonifer The Lindsey Wilson College Student Activities Office wants people to spring into good health. And members of the community are invited to participate. The second-annual Lindsey Wilson Health & Wellness Week will be held from Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, 2011. "Spring is when people get serious about shedding winter pounds, so we wanted to create a week of activities that will help get them off the couch and get into shape," said LWC Director of Student Activities Jayne Hopkins. One of the week's highlights is a health-and-wellness fair, which will be held from 4pm-7pmCT on Tuesday, March 29, in the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 401 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY. The event is free and open to the public. Tote bags will be given to the first 100 people who attend the fair, and a raffle will be held to give away an iPod shuffle. Area businesses will also be at the event. LWC nursing students will perform health checks, including body-fat testing, blood-pressure readings and diabetes screening. The week will also feature a three-on-three basketball tournament on Wednesday, March 30, that is open to members of the community. And all week long, area residents who are not members of the Holloway Health & Wellness Center can use the center for free by donating a canned good. The food will be given to the Adair County Food Pantry. "Our goal is to educate students, faculty, staff and the community on all aspects of health and wellness, which include emotional health, environmental health and occupational health," Hopkins said. "We want our graduates to be well-rounded and healthy individuals in every area of life."
