CU Art Scholarship competition and workshop is April 2, 2011

The competition will start with registration at 10amET, with the announcement of winners at 2pmCT. A brunch for candidates and parents/accompanying teachers will be provided. Portfolio preparation is a high priority; early and careful preparation is advised. CU art department is headed by Adair native Linda Cundiff.

High School senior art students can compete for two art scholarships worth a total of $6,000 each at Campbellsville University's annual art scholarship and workshop, which begins with registration and submission of portfolios at 10amET/9amCT, Saturday, April 2, 2011, in room 102 of the Art Building, 205A University DR, Campbellsville, KY.



Campbellsville University Art Department is headed by Linda Cundiff. She is an Adair County native and a graduate of Adair County High School.

The day's schedule following the 10amET registration includes:
  • 10:30amET/9:30amCT: A ceramics workshop in the Gosser Fine Arts Center, 210 University DR, Campbellsville, KY
  • 11:30amET/10:30amCT: A brunch for students, accompanying teachers or parents, in the Winters Dining hall, 411 N. Columbia AV, Campbellsville, KY.
  • 12:15pmET/11:15amCT: Interviews with students and examinations of portfolios by the Campbellsville University art faculty.
  • 2pmET/1pmCT: Announcement of the wining art scholarship and performance grant scholarships recipients will be held in Room 100 of the Art Building
Winners in the competition will receive $750 scholarships per semester for eight semesters while at Campbellsville University as art majors. Recipients must be art majors, and will be required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 - a B average - in college work at Campbellsville University. The recipients of the scholarships may also receive performance grant awards and other forms of financial aid.

The portfolios submitted should be five to 15 of the strongest and finest examples of the candidates artwork. Professor Cundiff said the portfolio should be selected on ambition in idea, execution, style and technical skill. The selection of media is up to the candidate.

Three dimensional pieces can consist of sculpture, ceramics, fibers, weaving or mixed media; black and white pieces can include a variety of media including graphite, charcoal, chalk, scratch board, pen and ink, ink wash drawings, black and white media, photography or mixed media, and colored pieces including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, tempera, color prints, digital graphics or other colored media.

Professor Cundiff suggest that portfolios contain a variety of themes and subjet matter, inlcuding figurative or portrait work, landscape, still life or other ideas and themes.

Work submitted must be original and by the student candidate. No pieces copied from another artist's work will be accepted and no work based on pre-packaged kits and no photo mechanically reproduced prints will be accepted.

Two dimensional work should be correctly matted, covered in acetate, shrink wrapped or framed.

Students participating in the competition are to present a portfolio of his or her best work work to the art faculty at 10amET/9amCT.
