College, community leaders help make Read day huge success Click on headline for album, with "Read Across America" day, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss. photo postings still in progress By Pamela Phipps, CWC Library Media Specialist News from Col. Wm. Casey School, 222 Gen. John Adair DR, Columbia, KY Colonel William Casey honored Dr. Seuss on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, by participating in "Read Across America Day." Members and leaders of the community came out to help Colonel William Casey celebrate one of America's favorite children's book authors, Theodor Seuss Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. Among them were Dr. Janella Brown, Mayor Mark Harris, County Attorney Jennifer Corbin, Adair County media specialist Leanne Jessie, Amy Thompson-Wells from LWC, Pharmacist Mike Stephens, retired teacher Nancy Loy, Nurse Krystal Broyles, former Kentucky State Trooper and Proprietor of Hardscratch General Store Ken Hill, several Lindsey Wilson College students, and Col. Wm. Casey faculty and staff. Dr. Seuss wanted to help children learn to read and have fun reading, so he started writing fun, rhyming books that children of all ages could enjoy. Students and staff at CWC wore red, black, and white just like one of Dr. Seuss's famous characters, The Cat in the Hat. Check out Dr. Seuss books at your school or public library...and be ready to have some fun! -Pam Phipps This story was posted on 2011-03-04 04:36:29
