News from Lindsey Wilson College Athletics

St. Catharine, KY - St. Catharine (KY) College blistered the nets for a 68.6 field-goal percentage that helped it beat the visiting Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball team 96-76 on Saturday February 26, 2011, at Lourdes Hall.

Freshman Chase Cox led Lindsey Wilson with 14 points on three 3-pointers, while juniors Charles Baker and Dominic Stewart each added 12 points. Baker also led the Blue Raiders in rebounding with seven boards.

Kashiff Carr scored a game-high 29 points for St. Catharine, while Antoine Watson added 25 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Raiders built a 13-9 lead early in the first half with a mix of jumpers from Clemons and Kimberland and strong post play from senior Cornell Thomas, but eventually the offensive firepower of the Patriots started to heat up until they led 25-15 at the first media timeout. The outburst from St. Catharine lasted throughout the next 10 minutes as it led by as many as 17 points after a runner in the paint from Watson. After that shot the Patriots were shooting 73.0 percent from the field.

Still, Lindsey Wilson wasn't ready to give up despite the gaudy shooting numbers for the Patriots. Cox knocked down a 3-pointer and Baker got a breakaway dunk to pull back within 10 (48-38) with under two minutes left in the half.

A free throw from Baker helped Lindsey Wilson keep St. Catharine at bay the rest of the half and enter the break down 52-41.

The Blue Raiders struck first in the second half with a basket to just be down by nine points not even a minute into the half. The single-digit deficit was short lived, however, as St. Catharine went on a run that took it all the way back ahead by a game-high 18 points.

There would be mini runs the rest of the way for the Blue Raiders, getting the St. Catharine down to 13, then to 14 and back again, but they could never get over the hump as the Patriots continued to control the game comfortably.

Over the final two minutes, turnovers doomed Lindsey Wilson as it struggled to get the ball across half court before a Patriot steal and layup. St. Catharine led 90-72 after a steal and basket with 1:39 to play. In the last minute the Patriots extended the lead to 20 to get the final 96-76 decision.

St. Catharine shot a season high field-goal percentage allowed by the Blue Raiders at 68.6 percent and it shot 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from 3-point range. Lindsey Wilson struggled from the field at 38.4 percent and couldn't get things going from the outside, hitting 5-of-27 shots for 18.5 percent.St. Catharine dominated the backboards for a 43-26 advantage including a 35 to 13 advantage on the defensive glass.

Lindsey Wilson Men return to action in the Mid-South Conference Championship on March 3-6 in Frankfort, KY, at the Frankfort Convention Center, 465 Mero ST, Frankfort, KY.
