Rotary President applauds Veterans observances, memorial Veterans events have special meaning for U.S. Navy Veteran George Kolbenschlag. He writes that he'll never be able to drive the Adair Veterans Memorial Highway without remembering the sacrifices of service men and women, and notes: 'We live in a great city, county and country' Comments re article 42455 Today Feb 14 2011 Veterans Valentines Day in Adair Co KY By George Kolbenschlag And a great breakfast and program it was. I can't speak for my fellow veterans, but I'm quite certain they appreciated as much as I did our county and city governments for sponsoring the morning's activities that honored the present Adair County veterans and memorialized those who came before us. Judge Executive Ann Melton and Mayor Mark Harris not only sponsored the celebration, they did the work! The Judge, Mayor and their cohorts were at the Annex early this morning preparing for the veterans' breakfast. The speakers, Judge Melton, Mayor Harris, Robert Flowers, Bam Carney and Hilda Legg, all made it a very personal and meaningful occasion. We also owe our thanks to Walmart for providing the food. Our local Walmart has traditionally been supportive of area veterans, and I, for one, appreciate it! Thanks, too, to the highway department and all those who made the Adair Veterans Memorial Highway, (formerly known only as "the bypass") possible. I will not be able to drive that stretch of highway without remembering those friends and acquaintances of mine who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy. We live in a great city, county and country. -George Kolbenschlag, President, Columbia Rotary Club This story was posted on 2011-02-15 04:36:56
