CU Tiger football signs 56 on National Signing Day In the 4th year of the Perry Thomas' era at Campbellsville University, rising seniors are members of his first recruiting class in 2008, allowing a shift in recruiting style, more time to develop players, adapt them to CU systems. Complete list of first day signers below Four more players have faxed signed letters; the total for the class, at 6:07pmCT, Thursday, February 3, 2011, is sixty (60) players! - Chris Megginson By Chris MegginsonNews from Campbellsville Athletics More than 50 student-athletes from across the nation put on a Campbellsville University hat Wednesday, February 2, 2011, and signed to play football for the Tigers in 2011. Campbellsville head football coach Perry Thomas and his staff kicked off the recruiting season by securing more than a dozen transfers and grayshirt athletes to help round out a National Signing Day total of 56 letters of intent for the Tigers. "We say this every year, and it's true, this is the best class we've brought in," Thomas said. "We were able to go out and not just try to find players to get the job done for us, but we were able to go out and fill our needs in spots. Once we filled our needs, we were looking for the good players that can come in and develop for down the road." Entering the fourth-year of the Thomas era, the rising seniors for 2011 are members of Thomas' first recruiting class in 2008. That depth in the program led to a shift in style for recruiting this season. "The beauty of where we are now in our program is that we have so many returning guys. We're going into our fourth year here and with so many returners, we don't need these guys to come in and compete right away. Certainly, if they're going to make us better right now, then let's get them on the field, but there's now an opportunity for them to come in and develop within our system," Thomas said. Campbellsville recruiting coordinator Tim Rogers said the coaching staff was able to focus this year, more than ever, on position-specific recruiting. But while the numbers are high, the Tigers are not yet finished recruiting. "We still have six or seven blue chip kids we're trying to finish up," Rogers said. "We'll probably spend a lot more time looking and make sure we've turned over every rock and not missed anyone. We'll also spend some extra time on transfers over the summer." The Tigers hosted 40 of their 56 signees on campus Wednesday for CU's fourth-annual Signing Day ceremony in the Davenport Student Lounge at 1pmET. Over the past two years, Thomas has led CU to 14 wins and back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Mid-South Conference East Division. In 2010, Campbellsville returned to the postseason for the first time since 2001 with a trip to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Victory Bowl. The first-year Tigers already enrolled at CU this spring will have an opportunity to see first action in the Tigers' Maroon and White game on April 30, 2011 at Finley Stadium. CU will open the 2011 season at home in Finley Stadium, 204 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY.against Union College of Barbourville, KY, on Thursday, September 4, 2011, at 7pmET/6pmCT.Campbellsville University competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and also in the NCCAA.
