A fire from afar: Pickett Hill controlled burn

2011-01-30 - 39 Dusk Lane, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Heavy black smoke billowed over a controlled burn fire Sunday afternoon conducted for training purposes by the Columbia Fire Department. The homeowner was burning the remainder of an earlier fire at the location, 39 Dusk Lane, on January 13, 2011. The earlier fire was alleged to have been arson. Heavy winds shifted, prompting the department to call in more units to control the blaze. The photo above was taken from the north end of Wall Street, near the Columbia Cemetery. The scene overlooks the Columbia-Adair Utilities Sewer Palnt.
