ACHS A-Team wins District Governor's Cup 6th year in a row

Team sweeps 1st and 2nd places in every category but one, a first time feat for the team in its 26 year participation in Governor's Cup!
COUNTY HEROES AGAIN: Seniors: Luke Maupin, Ryan Montgomery, Jake Leibeck, Aaron Bradshaw, Chase Yaden, Candace Blackwelder, McKenzie Martin. Juniors: Eddie Franklin, Jr., Kyle Mann, Audra Turner, Ashley Neat, Nathaniel Johnson. Mary Susan Coomer. Sophomores: Heather Jackson, Emmalee Baker, Roslin Wilson, Abby Walker, Alison Feese, Alex Durham. Freshmen: Matt Rogers, Kyle Castaneda, Sydney Bright, Leane Blackwelder.

Adair County High School hosted the KAAC Governor's Cup District Championship this Saturday, January 29, 2011 and came away with their 6th District title in the past 6 years.

The academic team captured 1st Place in every area of the competition.

The Quick Recall team swept through all rounds of the Quick Recall double elimination tournament and will now represent the 16th District at Region as a #1 seed.

The Future Problem Solving team also captured their 6th title in a row by winning 1st Place in the District topic of Air Transport.

In individual written assessment competition, the team swept 1st and 2nd in every category but one, a first time feat for the team in the 26 year history of participation in Governor's Cup. The team was able to place in the top 5 in individual competition with 16 of its 18 entered participants.



Team and individual awards for the competition were as follows:

Quick Recall
  • 1st Place
(The team has now gone three consecutive years in Governor's Cup District and Regional tournament play without a single loss.)

Future Problem Solving
  • 1st Place. Team members Emmalee Baker, Alison Feese, Abby Walker, Roslin Wilson, Kyle Castaneda, Sydney Bright
Mathematics
  • 1st Place - Aaron Bradshaw
  • 2nd Place - Eddie Franklin, Jr.
  • 3rd Place - Nathaniel Johnson
Language Arts
  • 1st Place - Jake Leibeck
  • 2nd Place - Heather Jackson
  • 3rd Place - Candace Blackwelder
Arts and Humanities
  • 1st Place - Luke Maupin (Top 10 score statewide)
  • 2nd Place - Jake Leibeck
  • 4th Place- Kyle Mann
Social Studies
  • 1st Place - Luke Maupin (2nd highest score statewide)
  • 3rd Place - Eddie Franklin, Jr.
  • 4th Place - Kyle Mann
Science
  • 1st Place - Ryan Montgomery
  • 2nd Place - Aaron Bradshaw
Composition
  • 1st Place - Ryan Montgomery
  • 2nd Place - McKenzie Martin
Teams in the 16th District include Green County, Russell County, and Casey County.

The team will now compete for their 7th Regional Championship in a row at Allen County-Scottsville on February 15 and 19.
