Nicknamery rampant in Russell, Fudgey, The Aider Co. Boy, says The writer, a best friend of Tail Light, aka Curly, Dee and Shorty, is himself proud bearer of plural Russell County sobriquets By Billy Joe Fudge A 30 year career that put me inside the confines of Russell County for many days and weeks each year in the performance of my duties has landed me "Jim Smack" in the middle of this name phenom. I think that even more than the people of Russell County's propensity toward uniqueness in the assignment of "given names" is their predilection for nicknames. And when I say nicknames I do mean it in the plural sense. It seems that they pass out nicknames in Russell County as they pass out Oscars in Hollywood. In Russell County nicknames are worn with pride as a badge of honor and received with thanksgiving no matter the derogatory nature of the name itself. My best friend in all of Russell County is known by many nicknames; Curly, Shorty, Dee, and Tail Light just to name a few. Folks in Russell County know me by Fudgey, B J, Rattlesnake Boy, Aider County Boy and several more I will not divulge due to the fact that some outside the confines of Russell County might consider them to be offensive in nature although no self-respecting Russell Countian would ever think so. Thank you Russell County for the many "Oscars" you have bestowed upon me. Comments re article 42138 The Dravo Census: The County 7; Rest of universe 1 This story was posted on 2011-01-30 17:56:09
