I posted a photo of this log house in May of 2008 (In comment section on Flickr) without any history to go with it.

The best guess on when it was built was in 1825.

My G-Grandfather Thomas Browning and his family were living in it when the census of 1850 was taken. It remained in the family until 1908.

The farm and log home were sold to settle the estate of Nancy Browning, Thomas's widow. Ownership of the farm and home from 1908 forward: Lorenzo Young to Bernard Bland Sr. to Bland Family members to Eugene Caldwell, and is now owned by Gerald and Karen Caldwell, who restored the house in the late 1980s.

The house was of traditional " dog trot design" with two rooms down and two shaped rooms up. The house has some of the largest and longest logs in the county.

A tornado that went through in 1925 destroyed the back part of the house that was used as a kitchen. Joe Young escaped a most certain death when his mother picked him up from the kitchen and moved him into another room just minutes before the tornado demolished the kitchen.

The house comes complete with a resident ghost that opens and shuts doors, and at times turns off the TV. I have no first hand experience of this, since I have never been in the house.
