LWC, Pikeville Teams participate In Coaches vs. Cancer MSC Basketball Action, Saturday, January 29, 2011: Doubleheader at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard DR, Columbia, KY. Lindsey Wilson Women meet Pikeville College at 2pmCT. The Blue Raider Men meet Pikeville College at 4pmCT By Chris Wells Columbia, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's basketball teams will remind fans that there's more to life than basketball on Saturday when the Blue Raiders host Pikeville (KY) College at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders and visiting Bears will join together to participate in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Games. The event is part of a nationwide effort among National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) members to raise money to fight the disease. Saturday's doubleheader features the NAIA-NBCA (National Basketball Coaches Association) "Suits and Sneakers" campaign. The coaching staffs from both institutions will don sneakers during the games on Saturday. Lindsey Wilson men's basketball coach Paul Peck says Saturday is another chance for fans to support a great cause. "One of the cornerstones of the NAIA is to encourage our student-athletes and fans to make a difference in their communities, and I can think of no better way to do this than to join in the fight against cancer," said Peck. "This is a great philanthropic opportunity for our fans to step up." A portion of the proceeds from the gate will be donated to Coaches vs. Cancer program. Lindsey Wilson women's basketball coach John B. Wethington says everyone has someone in their life touched by cancer. "A lot of people in both the Lindsey Wilson community and in Columbia-Adair County have been touched by cancer," Wethington said. "This is a small way that everyone can come together and help make a difference." For more information about the Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Game at Lindsey Wilson, contact the LWC Athletics Office at athletics@lindsey.edu or (270) 384-8070.
