Campbellsville wrestling climbs to No. 4 in NAIA poll LIndsey Wilson ranked No. 17: See complete NAIA poll By Chris Megginson, Campbellsville Athletics Campbellsville University climbed to No. 4 in the NAIA Wrestling rankings Tuesday and is only one point out of third-place. The rise in the ranks comes just days before the Tigers host No. 1 Notre Dame College on Saturday, January 29, 2011. The Tigers rise comes with the ranking of nine CU grapplers, including the top wrestler at 133 pounds, Tim Thurston, and 141 pounds, Tommy Pretty. Pretty is one of only three undefeated wrestlers in the rankings and the only unbeaten wrestler with 20 wins (20-0). Thurston (15-1) is one of three wrestlers in the NAIA rankings with only one loss. Following Pretty and Thurston are seven other Tiger wrestlers, with Johnny Papesh (125) and David Clemens (165) ranking at No. 4 in their respective weight. Clemens shoots back into the rankings this week after winning the Missouri Valley College Invitational over the weekend and being named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week. At 149 pounds, Matt Milton moves into the ranks at No. 11, while Conor Young is ranked No. 10 at 157. Josh Ashbrook slides into the 174-pound rankings at No. 12, while Spencer Adams is fifth at 197 pounds, a weight which holds four wrestlers from the East Region in the Top 5. In team rankings, Notre Dame holds a 4.5 lead over Grand View (IA) and McKendree University sits in third and Missouri Valley is fifth. Cumberland University (TN) is seventh in the NAIA and second among MSC schools, while Lindsey Wilson College is No. 17. Shorter College and University of the Cumberlands are also receiving points. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the groupings. The next poll will be announced on February 8, 2011. -Chris Megginson This story was posted on 2011-01-26 05:58:59
