Charlize O'Dell wins Barnum and Bailey Gold Award at Pikeville Eight year old Jamestown Elementary School student wins $1,000 prize in contest through her support of the Ronald McDonald House. Remarkable youngster is the daughter of Candi and Bentley O'Dell of Russell Spring, KY. Charli's maternal grandparents are Dr. Lew and Donita Hortillosa of Campbellsville, KY and the late Leroy Murphy of Columbia, KY. Her paternal grandparents are Charles and Lynetta O'Dell of Columbia, KY On October 3, 2010 eight-year old Charlize O'Dell of Jamestown Elementary was awarded the Gold Award at the opening ceremony of the Barnum and Bailey Circus in Pikeville, KY. The Barnum Award was created to recognize children, ages 6-14, who give back to their communities. Charli has faithfully collected aluminum tabs for The Ronald McDonald House since Kindergarten. Aside from participating in the opening night ceremony, Charli was awarded a check for $1,000.00. The following quote can be found on the Barnum and Bailey website, "Our Gold Barnum Award Winner is 8-year-old Charlize of Russell Springs, KY. Charlize collects pop tabs at birthday parties, outings, gatherings. She also created a donation box in her classroom and has encouraged students to take the time to donate their pop tabs as well. The pop tabs are exchanged for dollars which go to fund the Ronald McDonald House which provides assistance and comfort to families of hospitalized children.
