Western Kentucky University regents approve nursing doctorate

Regents also approve Master of Accountancy, undergraduate minor in Child Life

News from Western Kentucky University

Bowling Green, KY - The Western Kentucky University Board of Regents approved several new degree programs, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), on Friday, January 21, 2011.

The approval of the DNP was necessary in order to forward an application to the Kentucky Board of Nursing, according to Dr. Mary Bennett, director of the School of Nursing. She said the American Association of Colleges of Nursing has identified the DNP as the preferred preparation for specialty nursing practice by 2015.

The Kentucky General Assembly passed legislation in 2010 to allow comprehensive universities to offer the DNP.

In addition, the Board approved a new Master of Accountancy and a new undergraduate minor in Child Life.

The Board also heard reports on the progress of construction projects, the 2010-2022 Master Plan and on Health Services.
