She was a member of a respected Green Co. family, a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church, and a former nursing assistant at Green Hill Manor Nursing Facility, Greensburg, KY

Mrs. Rachel Kate Shirrell, 90, of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

The funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Kate Shirrell were conducted, Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY with Bro. Wilburn Bonta officiating. Burial is in the Greasy Creek Cemetery.



Pallbearers: Jeff Shirrell, Tyce Shirrell, Rich Mitchell, Allen Mitchell, John McCloughn, and Chad Heath.

Mrs. Rachel Kate Shirrell, Green Co., KY (1920-2010)

Mrs. Rachel Kate Shirrell was the daughter of the late Richard Amos Meadows and Elvie Morgan Meadows. She was born Tuesday, November 30, 1920 in Green County and departed this life on Monday, January 10, 2011 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. She was 90 years, 1 month and 11 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church. She was a former Nursing Assistant for the Green Hill Manor Nursing Facility.

She united in marriage to Clemon L. Shirrell on December 23, 1937 who preceded her in death on November 7, 1988.

Survivors include the following:
  • Two sons and a daughter-in-law: Wendell and Linda Sue Shirrell of Louisville, KY, and Roger Shirrell of Greensburg, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Jeffrey Lee Shirrell and Kristi Mitchell, both of Louisville, KY, and Sherry Shirrell of Greensburg, KY

  • Four great-grandchildren: Allen Mitchell, Kaitlin Mitchell, Taylor Shirrell, and Tyce Shirrell all of Louisville, KY

  • Two step-grandchildren: Jon Michael and Lane Whelan

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Shirrell was also preceded in death by a brother: Richard Glen Meadows; and an infant sister.

Memorials are suggested to the Southminster Baptist Church, 11780 Tierney Ave., Louisville, Kentucky 40272, 502-933-2761, or can be made at the funeral home.

The Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
