Birds flock to home of Maury Lewis, the perfect hostess

By Barbara Armitage

I had a chance to visit my friend Maury Lewis this morning and photograph just a few of her birds. I'm hoping for warmer weather and another invitation to go back and take some more photos.

Maury Lewis is an avid birdwatcher/feeder. Her feeding station is set up just right - from the huge rock bird table to the brush pile she left nearby.

Always the perfect hostess she has provided for each bird's dietary needs. There is an Adair County Garden Club Gourmet Suet Ball, a hopper feeder filled with birdie delights and, of course, a double sock filled with Nyjer seed for the Goldfinches.

Birds of Kentucky: Lots of American Goldfinches

Make room for one more. Barbara Armitage writes, "Goldfinches at Maury Lewiss home. They will flock to your yard, too, if you hang a feeder sock filled with Nyjer." For more about the species, see All About Birds: American Goldfinch.
