CU Lady Tigers erase first-half deficit, beat Columbia 70-59 By Richard RoBards Columbia, MO. - The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers erased a 12-point deficit in the first half for a 33-31 half-time lead and went on to defeat one of the better teams they've played this season, Columbia College, 70-59 in the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic. "We really battled," said coach Ginger Colvin. "Our bench won it for us tonight. When your All-American sits 11 minutes of the first half and you lead at half ... we had some kids really step up. Alexia Williams had five big points in the first half that was instrumental in the CU rally. "Lex really gave some good minutes. And you can't say enough for Megan Isaacs. She had 11 rebounds against against some really big, physical people." CU went on an 18-3 run to start the second half and then kept the Cougars at bay. Columbia closed to within eight on several occasions, but could get no closer. Whitney Ballinger, who sat half of the first 20 minutes, scored 16 second-half points and 11 of the points during the run. She ended with 20 and 12 rebounds. She was named Classic MVP. Her teammate, Courtney Clifton, was named to the All-Classic team. Clifton ended with 18 points and six rebounds. Corin Dunn, who had eight points and three rebounds, seemed to wait for the most dramatic moments. She scored five of the team's final 10 points and grabbed a decisive rebound with Columbia threatening to inch closer. "This is the fourth team of this conference (American Midwest) and by far the best." Columbia (59) - Rice 14, Session 11, Phillips 12, Cross 11, Rosario 4, Teeple 3, Bogle 3.
