The Doc: Herons sit in trees. Goats go to porch rooftops

The Doc has a soft spot for herons. Yes, they do sit in trees. But seeing a goat on a roof top on Hwy 76 made him question whether he saw what he saw.
Comments re article 41275. Letter: The Heron in a tree phenomenon

by The Doc, Roger D. Smith, DMD

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Great Blue Heron. I even call our dining room the Heron Room because of my Heron prints occupying the walls. This, I admit, is to the dismay of my wife. But, yes, Herons do sit in trees. Many days in the duck hunting bottoms of Casey Creek I've watched them sit high above the creek watching and waiting for a meal. The uniqueness of this photo is that I seem to have always seen them in bare trees with big limbs and not bushy trees.

Further, on the subject of climbing goats, I will never forget the morning I was heading down Hwy. 76 at dawn (again a duck hunting trip) and saw a goat standing on the porch of a house.

Needless to say, I stopped the truck and backed up to make sure that I saw what I saw. On several trips later I saw the goat either on the porch or in a large Maple tree in the front yard. I still regret not getting a picture.Regards, -The Doc
