Barren Sheriff's Department warns of phone scam

By Trevor Phillips, Director of Public Relations
Barren Co., KY, Sheriff's Office, Glasgow, KY

The Barren County Sheriff's Office is warning all citizens of a telephone scam. The caller is asking formonetary donations and requesting personal information such as banking information and a social security number.

Reports from victims indicate the name and number on the caller id to be First Baptist (270) 247-1485.

If you receive a phone call DO NOT release any information that the caller may be requesting from you or do not call them and release any information. Investigation reveals the Church and number to be accurate; however, thieves have hacked into the telephone line to unlawfully make these calls.

The Barren County Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate this scam and reminds all citizens especially at this time of year to be extra diligent in protecting your identity and personal information. If you have any questions about this you can contact the office at (270) 651-2771. -Trevor Phillips
