No. 15 Lindsey Wilson College beats Wilberforce 85-56 Krell Scores 18 in First Half News from Lindsey Wilson College Sports Information Columbia, KY- The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team's pain from a lopsided loss to University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, KY, was cured with an emphatic 85-56 win over Wilberforce University of Wilberforce, OH, on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Lindsey Wilson's Biggers Sports Center. Senior Viktoria Krell scored 18 of her game-high 24 points in the first half and finished a perfect 10-for-10 from the field to help the Blue Raiders get back on the winning track. Sophomore Ashley Rainey tallied a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds aided by a 6-for-6 showing at the free-throw line where she is shooting 74.3 percent for the season. It was a total team effort for Lindsey Wilson (8-2, 2-1 MSC) to pick up the win, getting three players in double figures scoring, along with six players with multiple assists. After looking so lost against the Patriots on Thursday, it was a good sign for the senior leader Krell to see her team working so well together. "We were really disappointed (after Cumberlands) because we were ready to come out and win that game," Krell said. "It hurt as a lot. I think everybody played good today. Everybody scored, everybody boxed out, we did the things that we didn't do in the last game." The rebounding effort was obvious as Lindsey Wilson snatched up a season-high 54 rebounds including 40 on the defensive glass. Wilberforce managed to grab just 25 total rebounds, despite claiming a respectable 13 on the offensive side. The Bulldogs were led by Danielle Lewis and Angelica Rucker with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Andrecia Smith led Wilberforce (1-15, 0-3 AMC) on the glass with six rebounds. Entering the game with just a 1-14 record, including 13 straight losses, Wilberforce didn't look like a team ready to give up on its season. A little over five minutes into the game, Wilberforce's Danisha Brown sank a 3-ponter that shortened the Blue Raider lead to 15-10. However, Lindsey Wilson responded with an 8-0 run that took all the momentum away from the surging Bulldogs and put them into desperation mode the rest of the game. Looking for a quick fix, Wilberforce put up 25 3-point attempts compared to just 12 for Lindsey Wilson. Even with the large difference in attempts, the Blue Raiders were able to connect on five from behind the arc, while Wilberforce hit just six. With 14:51 to play in the game, Lindsey Wilson had pushed ahead by 31 points (63-32) and took all of its starters out of the game for good. Lindsey Wilson's reserves continued to give it hard play, extending the lead to 34 points before a late rally brought Wilberforce within 24 points, but it was too late to continue any type of comeback. In a reserve role, sophomore Britney Payne collected a career-high eight rebounds and senior Bethany Spillman pulled down nine rebounds on a night where scoring wasn't her priority. Senior Diondra Anthony didn't look to score either with zero shot attempts, but did dish out a game-high six assists with just three turnovers. The Blue Raiders outshot the Bulldogs from the field 58.2 percent to 26.1 percent and handed out 21 assists compared to just six for Wilberforce.
