Hands Extended invites everyone to Thanksgiving Dinner As a community, our hearts are always open to helping each other in whatever way we can. That is what makes us great. No one need be alone this Thanksgiving. Everyone is invited to the Hands Extended Community Thanksgiving from 10am-1pmCT, or until food runs out, at the Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY Click on Headline for Story plus photo(s) By Jimmy Kemp Hands Extended, is the name of the organization which has been working hard for the past several months to bring about a community oriented Thanksgiving Dinner. We, my wife and better half, Sally and I saw a need for this. We live in a community which rallies like no other when someone is in need. The last few Thanksgivings we had dinner at some of our beautiful state parks. We noticed there were several who, for whatever reason, were alone. We recognized some of them and knew others by name. They were dining alone, only speaking with the person that was waiting on them. We had each other. but what about them? Why were they alone? So we started thinking, wouldn't it be great if everyone had a place to go for Thanksgiving and feel like they were a part of a "family". Thus, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner was born. This would be like the time of the first Thanksgiving; the community would come together after the harvest and give thanks to God for all that he blessed them with. They would share and fellowship and get reacquainted with old friends and make new ones. Some would travel all day to attend and be with others that were thankful. This spirit is what we as an organization, Hands Extended, want for our community. We care not what status you might hold, we all have things which we are thankful for. We want everyone to come and fellowship and enjoy all which God has given us. This community has come together and given of themselves and their resources, just as they always have, to make this dinner possible. We live in one of the greatest communities around. The people are what make it great. Not to say we don't have our shortcomings, we do. We all do, myself included. But as a community, our hearts are always open to helping each other in whatever way we can. That is what makes us great. So please come and fellowship with. Get reacquainted with old friends and who knows, your new best friend just might meet you there! -Jimmy Kemp This story was posted on 2010-11-24 05:06:15
