Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville. The concert is free and open to the public. Schocker will be performing music by Cesar Franck, Francis Poulenc, J.S. Bach and some of his own compositions. He will be accompanied by Cliff Jackson, a pianist from Lexington, KY. Schocker is the most published living composer of music for the flute. He has 120 published pieces and has written over 200 works, including award-winning musicals. His CDs will be for sale after the concert, as well as a book about his life and professional work. Schocker studied music at Juilliard and made his professional debut at the age of 15 when he performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. While he was still a teenager, he won the National Flute Association Young Flute Competition. Schocker also won the Young Concert Artist auditions. This accomplishment gave him the opportunity to tour the country, performing and teaching, and through that he gained experience and connections worldwide. Along with being a highly talented flutist, Schocker is also an accomplished pianist. One of his unique abilities is playing the flute and piano at the same time. Another characteristic that makes Schocker's performances unique is the fact that he performs all of his music from memory. Schocker is an adjunct professor at New York University. He also has flute studios in Easton, PA, and New York City. While on Campbellsville University's campus, Schocker will teach private lessons to flute students. There will also be a reading session of his music that is open to all flutists from everywhere. This story was posted on 2010-11-16 07:30:31
