Guest commentary: It only takes one good heart

It only takes one good heart with good intentions to plant a seed and watch it grow into something beautiful! -Patricia Kimbler
The ADAIR COUNTY WAY

By Patricia Kimbler

I would like to express to the community that it only takes one goodhearted person.who who is compassionate about a cause which makes you feel like you just have to do something to give back, and that's all it takes to get the ball rolling, and our wonderful Community of Adair County will join in.

I love living here, not only because I believe it's one of the many beautiful places in KY, but also because if someone is sick or has had on accident and has fallen down, our community will rally together to lift you up again!

My sister Norma Scott (I love her so much!): She has never put herself in the public's eye for any reason, until she had her first grandson, and he was born with health problems.

He was flown to Kosair's immediately, The Ronald McDonald House was there for them, providing shelter, food and a support system to help the whole family cope.

From that moment on Norma was driven to give back to the Ronald McDonald House. She collected tabs, started making blankets, but felt like she needed to do more.

One day she told me, she would like to hold a Charity Benefit to try to raise supplies, money, and awareness for this wonderful place! She started putting a lot of thought into it, decided to get donations to auction off, a drop-off for items on the R.M.H Wish list, planned games, and made people aware she wanted them to come share their stories.

She worked so hard! And it happened R.M.H Staff supported her, came down to help, and the Community pitched in, gave their time, money, supplies, food, and furnished the building to do it in!

My sister raised over $7000, and so many supplies, and the people came together!

They shared their stories, made new friends, and started a support system that would grow! Since then she has worked with The Chamber of Commerce and they made sure the Wish List has continued on, as well as the give a blanket project.

I would like to thank the Chamber for doing such a good job! But I also would like to remind us: It only takes one good heart with good intentions to plant a seed and watch it grow into something beautiful! -Patricia Kimbler
