Obituary: Mr. Arvin Edward Whitlow, 93, Green Co., KY

He was a lifelong farmer in Green Co., KY. He was a member, song leader and deacon at the Holly Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Mr. Arvin Edward Whitlow, 93, of the Holly Grove Community in Green Co., KY, departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

The funeral services for Mr. Arvin Edward Whitlow will be conducted at 12pm Noon CT, Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Holly Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery. Bro. Leslie Jewell will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pm-9pmCT, Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, and after 9amCT, Friday, November 5, at the Church. There will be a Masonic service conducted by the William B. Allen Lodge #704 at 7pmCT, Thursday evening at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home.



Pallbearers: Robbie Fulkerson, Paul Hope, Todd Whitlow, B.J. Whitlow, Danny Elkins, Troy Durrett, Troy Houk, Gannen Durrett, Tanner Durrett, and Hunter Marsh.

Honorary pallbearers: Thomas Whitlow, Lemond Benningfield.

Mr. Arvin Edward Whitlow, Green Co., KY (1917-2010)

Mr. Arvin Edward Whitlow of the Holly Grove Community in Green County, KY, son of the late Lynn Whitlow and Emmit Johnson Whitlow, was born on Tuesday, August 10, 1917 in Green Co., KY and departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. He was 93 years, two months and 23 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Song Leader for over 50 years. He was a member of the William B. Allen Masonic Lodge #704 in Summersville and was a lifelong farmer.

He united in marriage to Dorothy Ellan Cantrell Whitlow on July 27, 1940 who preceded him in death on September 16, 2001.Other survivors include the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Bobby and Vonnie Whitlow of Utica, KY

  • A daughter and son-in-law: Shirley and Junior Elkins of Green Co., KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Todd Whitlow, Kim Fulkerson, Paul Hope, Angela Houk, Danny Elkins, Marla Durrett and B.J. Whitlow

  • Fifteen great-grandchildren

  • One step-grandchild

  • A host of other relatives and friends
Mr. Whitlow was also preceded in death by two great-grandchildren: Charity Elkins on May 3, 1996 and Christian Elkins on April 29, 1996.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund or the Holly Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.

The Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
